HMCS Cape Breton, April 13th, 2009

While Alan and Josey were experiencing semi-exhibitionist body builders in speedos and 30" of visibility at Whytecliff, Jeremy and I were enjoying 50' of viz and some great scooter dive on the HMCS Cape Breton with Diver's Choice. Mark Gottfried was finishing the experience dives for a Tech I course and Jeremy and I were having a blast scootering and looking for Cabezons. We found four big honkers the size of my leg on the second dive as well as some funky rock fish on a small reef just beside the wreck. The viz was so good that we went down the port side and headed out along the bottom away from the wreck to see what was there. We found quite a few rockfish and it was really interesting to look back at the ship and really get a feel for how big she really is. There is a lot more life growing on the Southern side of the wreck than on the side nearest Snake Island and scootering along the wreck on the South is a bit like playing "dodge the plumose" as to travel along the deck. We actually had some decent weather and the sea flattened out considerably during our SI and our second dive was even more relaxing than the first dive. Both dives were easy Tech I dives with 21/35 and having scooters made things that much more fun. Thanks to Ken from Diver's Choice for running a class operation as always. And Congratulations Kim for completing your Tech I and welcome to the trimix crowd.
